When home care isn’t enough, but hospitalization isn’t required, there’s RACE short-term inpatient rehabilitation at KershawHealth Medical Center.
RACE (Restoring Abilities for Community reEntry) rehabilitation helps patients quickly regain the everyday skills and abilities they need to be more independent. In fact, most patients are on their way home within three months.
While part of the RACE program, our patients reside in a special, skilled nursing unit on the KershawHealth Medical Center main campus. Unlike a traditional hospital room, our home-like atmosphere allows patients to gather in common areas and enjoy special activities, holiday celebrations and other events. They can even take advantage of such amenities as our outdoor garden and on-site beauty salon services without leaving the support and encouragement of the medical environment.
Our skilled nursing team and certified physical, occupational and speech therapists work together to help patients achieve such rapid recoveries. With our low patient-to-therapist ratio, each patient receives the attention they deserve, helping them regain the strength and spirit to continue their rehabilitation at home.
When it’s time to transition back to home life, our discharge planners help patients and families find the appropriate home medical equipment, home health services and other resources they may need. We’re committed to helping find anything that a patient requires to continue their recovery and race back to their life.
A physician referral is required for RACE admission. Talk to your doctor if you or a loved one can benefit from RACE rehabilitation.
